Transferring a Domain to FrostByte
You can benefit from hosting your domain name with FrostByte even if you initially registered it with another domain registrar by transferring your domain to FrostByte.
Transferring UK Domain Names
Contact us to let us know your intention to move your UK domain name to FrostByte, we will usually come back to you quickly to say everything is OK and that the transfer will be accepted. Assuming this is the case you need to contact your current Domain Registrar and ask them to transfer your domain name(s) to the IPS TAG "FROSTBYTE". Your existing registrar should not refuse unless there is a valid reason such a updaid bills or a contract you have with them restricting transfers. We do not charge you any fee for the transfer, we will contact you to renew the registration at our standard rate shortly before the renewal date is reached.
Transferring .COM, .NET, .ORG & .DE Domain Names
We cannot do registrar transfers for domains that are On Hold or Past Due with the current registrar. To be on the safe side, you should start the registrar transfer process at least two weeks before the expiry of the domain. The Admin Contact Email address for the domain must be valid.
The process is as follows:
You make a transfer request with us by filling in the online form (or occasionally by other means).
An Email is sent to the Admin Contact (probably you) Email address of the domain to be transferred. The confirmation Email contains detailed instructions for the Admin contact. This includes a unique URL which displays an option to either accept or decline the transfer.NOTE: Before you attempt to transfer a domain, make sure that the Admin Contact Email for the domain to be transferred is valid. If the Admin Contact Email address listed in the current whois info is no longer valid, you must contact the original registrar to request it be changed. We can't assist you in transferring the domain until we can verify who is accepting the transfer.
The request is sent to the Registry for approval.
An email, is sent to the existing registrar requesting advising them of the request for transfer, they should agree unless there is a valid reason not to such as the domain being unpaid and past it's renewal date. Unless the existing Registrar explicitly denies the transfer (for instance, if the domain is past it's expiry date), it will usually go through this step within 9 days. However, it can go through sooner if the losing registrar explicitly approves the transfer so making sure that the existing registrar aware of your wish to transfer may help speed up the process. NOTE: Some Registrars have additional procedures of their own that you must also follow to verify the validity of transfers.
The transfer itself doesn´t cost anything, but you are required to register for at least one years registration with us at our usual rates. The year(s) you purchase when transferring are added to the domain from the domains current expiry date, so you don't loose anything !
Transferring Other Domain Names
If you are interested in transferring a domain name type not listed above please contact us to see if we can accomodate your needs.
General Notes
Once you have requested your transfer online you should log in and record your DNS pointing or Web/Email Forwarding so that we can get your settings ready for when the transfer occurs. Note that when a domains nameservers change a period of disruption to traffic occurs, this can last up to approx 72 hours but is commonly less. This is a result of how the Internet Domain Name System works and is not due to FrostByte or even the domain registries.
NOTE: You can make your DNS and Forwarding independent of a registrar or web host by subscribing to our DIY DNS service.
